Holiday Harmony: How to Make Thanksgiving Drama-Free
If you're stuck for conversation or need to diffuse a difficult guest (or two), read this. Because we can all use a little help -beyond the kitchen - with the holiday feast.
I dare you to tell me that Thanksgiving always runs smoothly.
Okay, I’m coming to your house next year.
Need help carving the turkey, timing the stuffing, and clearing the dishes? That’s likely.
Also need help with some icebreakers, especially considering today’s volatile climate (there will always be those who choose to ignore your “no-politics-at-the- table” rule. I promise.)
Here are some things to toss around while you’re tossing that afore-mentioned stuffing into the oven.
🦃The song “Jingle Bells” was originally written not for Christmas…but for Thanksgiving.
🦃At maturity, the average adult turkey has 3,500 feathers. (Apologies to all you vegetarians and vegans out there.)
🦃A pumpkin is not a vegetable - it’s a fruit.
🦃The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade attracts about 3.5 million people. Add to that another 50 million watching at home.
🦃Americans prepare about 46 million turkeys each Thanksgiving.
🦃Thanksgiving is more about dinner and leftovers on Thursday. Over 32 million people take advantage of sales on Black Friday.
🦃Turkey help is (still) just a phone call away: The Butterball turkey talk line, nearly 40 years old, gets 100,000 calls each year.
🦃The first Turkey Trot had just six runners, and took place in. Buffalo, N.Y.
🦃Don’t blame the amino acid tryptophan in turkey for making you want to take a nap, but rather, blame overeating.
🦃And finally…
It is possible to have healthy food on Thanksgiving. Just ask Eating Well, NYT Cooking, and Cookies and Kate.
Thank you all for being here. Wishing you a joyful, healthy, and happy celebration!
And if you’re so inclined, I’d be eternally grateful to add you to my list of subscribers. It’s just a click away.
One more thing…
The REAL story of the first Thanksgiving. Did you know these facts? Me neither.

What a fun read! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
