Great post; I also read that ironically, teary eyes can be a sign of dry eye syndrome.

Yes, seems counter-intuitive, doesn't it?

When I went to my eye doc at age 58 worried about how my eyes were leaking tears for no reason, he just gave a little shrug and said, "You're getting old." Great. He offered me no remedies. Your article's list of ways to deal with dry eye (which I finally realized is what I have, even though my eyes are tearing all the time) is what every doctor should hand their patients. So, I’ll be mindful of taking more frequent computer breaks (can use my iWatch to remind me). I’ve also started using the OcuSoft lid scrub pads, like Charlotte mentions below, and will try a moist eye mask, as you suggest.

Am especially intrigued by the idea of a tear duct plug, although don't relish any operation on or near my eyes. I’ve also read that Botox, placed carefully, can help the situation, but the “placed carefully” gives me pause.

Mostly, I think I need a new eye doctor who does more than ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Thanks for another informative article.

Thanks for your comment and thoughts. "You're getting OLD?" UGH. Hate that reply. I do hope he is or will be your FORMER eye doctor :) Thanks for your comment and thoughts. I did neglect to mention the OcuSoft lid scrubs, which I do use. It's a battle to find something that works. I hadn't heard about Botox as a possible treatment. I will have to look into that!

Hi! I went with Alan to his eye doc yesterday and he has very dry eyes.. he’s always had sensitive eyes but.. anyway, just an fyi - the doctor told him there are tiny pores on the rim of the top lid that get clogged. He told him to shampoo that area with warm water, eyes closed, and gave him over the counter shampoo pads. They look like little wipes. He said to do this once a day to clean the pores. Makes sense. Anyway, it’s crazy how we just went yesterday, got this diagnosis, and I get your email first thing! Thank you for all the great advice. I’m going to share it with Alan when he wakes up.

Funny how the universe works! Yes I forgot to mention the wipes and blepharitis, which could account for the problem. I have that too...and use the wipes daily to try to unclog the pores. I hope it works for Alan's eyes! xo

Thank you! I hope your eyes feel better also! I told the eye doctor that sometimes I put my black eye pencil on the underside of the top lid and he said that more women have dry eyes than men and it can be due to makeup. I’m going to stop doing that! Awareness is everything. I don’t have dry eyes and I don’t want to get it!! Great article!!
